Datacentres & assurance

Choose infrastructure with evidence you can examine.

Compliant infrastructure starts with defined requirements and relevant evidence. BLCS Global helps organisations frame datacentre and hosting decisions around the proposed facility, operating responsibilities and controls needed for their workload.

Define what the proposed service must satisfy.

List the legal, contractual, security and business requirements that apply to the workload. Separate mandatory conditions from preferences. A requirement for a particular country, independent assessment or recovery arrangement should state the evidence needed and the person who will accept it.

Identify the exact service being procured: physical capacity, dedicated hardware, virtual infrastructure or a managed application environment. Assurance about a building addresses only part of that service. Hosting configuration, identity, software maintenance and customer use still need accountable owners.

Verify the entity, scope and current status.

For a claimed certification, request the certificate, issuing body, assessed legal entity, standard, covered activities and locations, plus issue and expiry information. Check its current status through the appropriate issuing or accreditation route. An upstream operator’s certificate should not be presented as certification of BLCS Global or every customer application.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 concerns an information security management system. ISO develops standards but does not issue certification itself. Match the assessed scope to the service and deployment in the proposal; a familiar logo or general supplier statement is insufficient evidence on its own.

Distinguish design, construction and operations evidence.

Uptime Institute distinguishes Tier Certification of Design Documents, Tier Certification of Constructed Facility and Operational Sustainability. A design award and an assessment of the constructed facility are different evidence. Any Tier claim should identify the named facility, exact award and relevant scope.

Review power, cooling, physical access, maintenance and connectivity against the workload’s needs. A facility classification is not the same as an application availability commitment. Confirm the measured service boundary, exclusions and remedy in the actual service agreement instead of deriving a promised uptime figure from a Tier label.

Review where data and administration can go.

Record production, backup and recovery locations, together with logs, support access and connected suppliers. The location of the main server does not describe every data flow. Where an independent overseas entity can access personal information, transfer rules may need review alongside other data-protection duties.

Ask how access is granted, how records are retained, how data is returned or deleted and how changes to suppliers are handled. The customer’s legal and procurement reviewers should assess whether the resulting arrangements meet their obligations.

Turn assurance questions into an accountable proposal.

An agreed review can produce a requirements register, evidence requests, documented gaps and service-specific responsibilities. Record assumptions that still need confirmation, including facility availability and any customer-controlled settings.

Send your preferred geography, workload, required assurance evidence and resilience objectives to begin. BLCS Global confirms the proposed provider and service scope before commitment. This page does not assert a particular facility certification, owned location or universal compliance outcome.

Useful answers

Before you take the next step.

Practical details to help you discuss your requirements.

Does a certified datacentre make our application compliant?

No. Facility or management-system evidence covers a defined scope. Application design, configuration, access, data handling and your own organisational obligations need separate review.

Can you promise a specific Tier or certificate before reviewing the requirement?

A proposal must identify a currently available facility and verifiable evidence matching the requirement. The precise award, assessed entity, scope and contractual service should be confirmed before relying on the claim.
